New Expert Now Courses

A selection of IEEE Expert Now courses on green engineering and a series on fiber optics

7 June 2010

Two IEEE Expert Now courses on green engineering and a series on fiber optics have just been introduced. The interactive online courses are based on tutorials and workshops held at IEEE conferences.

An Introduction to Sustainable Green Engineering, Part 1
By Paul G. Ranky
A look at some of the challenges associated with developing environmentally sound products, processes, and service systems for such areas as manufacturing, design, electronics, and construction. The course also explores the fundamentals of alternative energy sources and carbon footprints.

An Introduction to Sustainable Green Engineering, Part 2
By Paul G. Ranky
Focuses on reducing waste through the use of environmental engineering and industrial ecology, a systems-based, multidisciplinary approach to understanding the behavior of complex, integrated human and natural systems. The design of energy-efficient telecommunications and data centers is covered as well.

The IEEE eLearning Series on Fiber Optics
By Larry Johnson
A collection of 24 tutorials covering modern deployment techniques. Topics include the basic optical theory and structure of optical fibers, fiber-optic safety, and equipment and tasks required to perform a variety of tests and measurements. A brief history demonstrates how fiber optics have evolved over the years.
