If you are looking for a rewarding volunteer activity, consider joining the IEEE Awards Board. The Awards Board Nominations and Appointments Committee is currently soliciting recommendations for the following vacancies on the 2009 Awards Board and its committees.

Member-at-Large:

  • Attends the Awards Board’s meetings and participates as a voting member.
  • Serves as a member of the IEEE Medal of Honor Selection Committee.
  • IEEE Division and Region Directors who serve as Members-At-Large are also required to be a liaison between the Awards Board and the Technical Activities Board and the Member and Geographic Activities Board (formerly the Regional Activities Board)
  • Reports on their organizational units’ awards-related activities.

Presentation & Publicity chair:

  • Recommends policies and procedures related to the presentation and publicity of all IEEE awards.
  • Oversees the annual Honors Ceremony.

Finance Committee chair:

  • Oversees the board’s budget.
  • Works with the Awards Board to prepare a budget to submit to the IEEE Finance Committee.

Medals Council chair:

  • Oversees the medal selection committees.
  • Brings forward recommendations for recipients from the IEEE councils that the Board should consider.
  • Grants extension of nomination deadlines.

Recognitions Council chair:

  • Oversees the recognition selection committees.
  • Makes recommendations for nominees from the councils that the Board should consider.
  • Approves extension of nomination deadlines for recognitions.

Technical Field Awards Council chair:

  • Oversees activities of the technical field awards selection committees.
  • Makes recommendations for nominees from the councils that the Board should consider.
  • Approves extension of nomination deadlines for technical field awards.

Award/Medal Selection Committee member:

  • Reviews nominations and recommends recipients for IEEE institute-level awards.

If you’re interested in one of these positions, please e-mail by 1 March no more than one page of a brief biography, a summary of your IEEE awards activities, and the position you’re interested in to awards@ieee.org. Although any IEEE member can apply, it is helpful if you have already served on a society, section, or region awards-selection committee, or even received a major IEEE award yourself.
