IEEE Awards Board Seeks Members for 2012

Volunteers are being sought for the IEEE Awards Board

If you're looking for a rewarding volunteer activity, consider joining the IEEE Awards Board. The board's Nominations and Appointments Committee is looking for people interested in serving on the following 2012 committees and councils. To serve, you must be in good standing as an IEEE senior member or Fellow.

Member-at-Large, Awards Planning and Policy Committee:

  • Supervise the policies of all awards administered by the Awards Board and other awards, including those of boards, technical societies, sections, councils, regions, conferences and committees, but excluding those administered by the Fellow grade elections.
  • Review and approve policies and procedures of the Awards Board and its committees, as noted in the Awards Board operations manual.
  • Submit recommendations and information to the Awards Board concerning policy and procedures for IEEE-level awards.

Member-at-Large, IEEE Awards Board Presentation and Publicity Committee:

  • Attend all committee meetings as a voting member.
  • Assist in promoting IEEE-level awards at Award exhibits.
  • Recommend policies and procedures for presenting and publicizing IEEE awards.
  • Attend the IEEE Honors Ceremony.

Member-at-Large, IEEE Awards Board Awards Review Committee

  • Review vitality of IEEE-level awards.
  • Review new award proposals.
  • Provide recommendations for the establishment of new IEEE-level awards that are relevant to current and emerging IEEE fields of interest.

Member, Awards Board Joint Awards with National Societies (JANS) Committee

  • Approve recipients.
  • Approve the establishment of new joint awards.

Vice Chair, IEEE Medals Council:

  • Attend the annual council meeting as a voting member.
  • In the absence or incapacity of the chair, the vice chair assumes the chair's duties.
  • Serve as a voting member on the Awards Planning and Policy Committee.

Vice Chair, IEEE Recognitions Council:

  • Attend the annual council meeting as a voting member.
  • In the absence or incapacity of the chair, the vice chair assumes the chair's duties.
  • Serve as a voting member on the Awards Planning and Policy Committee.

Vice Chair, IEEE Technical Field Awards Council:

  • Attend the annual council meeting as a voting member.
  • In the absence or incapacity of the chair, the vice chair assumes the chair's duties.
  • Serve as a voting member on the Awards Planning and Policy Committee.

Anyone interested in one of the positions should e-mail a request to serve to awards@ieee.org by 15 July. Be sure to include the position you're interested in, a biography of no more than one page, and a summary of your IEEE awards activities. Although any IEEE senior member or Fellow can apply, it is helpful if you have already served on a society, section, or region awards-selection committee or have received a major IEEE award yourself.
