IEEE Awards Board Seeks Members for 2013

Several rewarding volunteer positions available

If you’re looking for a rewarding volunteer activity, consider joining the IEEE Awards Board. The board’s Nominations and Appointments Committee is looking for people interested in the following positions on the 2013 IEEE Awards Board.  To serve, you must be in good standing as an IEEE senior member or Fellow.

Chair, IEEE Awards Board:

  • Schedule and facilitate board meetings.

  • Serve as chair of the Awards Board Operating Committee.

  • Serve on the IEEE Medal of Honor Committee.

  • Serve as nonvoting member of the IEEE Foundation board of directors.

  • Attend the annual IEEE Honors Ceremony.

Vice Chair, IEEE Awards Board:

  • Attend all board meetings as a voting member.

  • In the absence or incapacity of the chair, the vice chair assumes the chair’s duties.

  • Serve as chair of the IEEE Awards Planning and Policy Committee.

  • Serve on the Awards Board Operating Committee.

  • Serve on the Technical Activities Board Awards and Recognition Committee.

  • Serve as chair of the IEEE Medal of Honor Committee.

  • Attend the annual IEEE Honors Ceremony.

Member-at-Large, IEEE Awards Board:

  • Attend board meetings as a voting member.

  • By mutual agreement with the Awards Board chair, perform short-term tasks.

  • Division and region directors who serve as Members-at-Large act as the liaison between the Awards Board and the Technical Activities and Member and Geographic Activities boards.

  • Report on their organizational units’ awards-related activities.

Anyone interested in one of the positions should e-mail a request to serve by 31 December to awards@ieee.org. Be sure to include the position you’re interested in, a biography of no more than one page, and a summary of your IEEE awards activities. Although any IEEE senior member or Fellow can apply, it is helpful if you have already served on a society, section, or region awards-selection committee or have received a major IEEE award yourself.
