Gujarat Technological University, in India, will soon be offering the IEEE Computer Society’s three certification programs, as well as technical communication courses and workshops on international standards development.
Under a cooperative agreement signed recently with the society, GTU will become a registered education provider for the Software Engineering Body of Knowledge, the Certified Software Development Associate (for entry-level developers), and the Certified Software Development Professional (for mid-level professionals). Students will be able to earn credentials in any of the three programs. The certification classes will be taught by GTU professors, who will receive training from the society.
Students and teachers will also have access to the society’s TechLeader Online, a Web portal that offers e-learning courses and webinars designed to prepare students for the certification exams.
“This important collaboration is significant not only for IEEE and GTU but also for the students who will be taking advantage of new learning options to further their technical education and become part of the global workforce,” says Angela Burgess, the society’s executive director.
As part of the agreement, the IEEE Standards Association will conduct workshops at the university to educate students about international standards development, and members from the IEEE Computer Society’s Educational Activities Board will hold classes for engineering students and faculty on technical communication.
The classes and workshops will be available at the school’s three locations: Ahmedabad, Chandkheda, and Gandhinagar.
