Membership Tops 415 000

Student membership contributes to global growth

5 March 2012

IEEE’s worldwide membership last year reached 415 989. That represents an increase of 8448, or a little more than 2 percent, compared with the year before.

For the first time, a majority of members (208 893, 50.2 percent of the membership) now live outside the United States. That’s primarily due to increases last year in student membership in Regions 7, 8, 9, and 10.

Overall, higher-grade membership grew to 308 177 last year, an increase of 3431, or 1.1 percent. Graduate student membership declined slightly, to 39 895, 1.4 percent less than the previous year. Undergraduate student membership, however, totaled 67 917, a gain of 5568, 8.9 percent more than 2010.

IEEE membership offers a wide range of benefits and opportunities for those who share a common interest in technology. If you are not already a member, consider joining IEEE and becoming part of a worldwide network of more than 400,000 students and professionals.
