Konstantinos Karachalios, a leader in international standards development, has joined the IEEE Standards Association as managing director, in Piscataway, N.J. He succeeds Judy Gorman, who retired in April.

An IEEE member, Karachalios serves on the IEEE Management Council and reports to IEEE Executive Director Jim Prendergast.

Before joining IEEE, Karachalios was with the European Patent Office in Munich for 25 years. Most recently, he was the EPO’s manager of external relations, focusing on standards development for information and communications technologies. He was also responsible for building relationships between the EPO and other international organizations including a number of U.N. groups.

He received a master’s degree in mechanical engineering in 1979 and a Ph.D. in energy engineering with a focus on nuclear reactor safety in 1987, both from the University of Stuttgart, in Germany.

IEEE membership offers a wide range of benefits and opportunities for those who share a common interest in technology. If you are not already a member, consider joining IEEE and becoming part of a worldwide network of more than 400,000 students and professionals.
