14 October 2015

The Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum, in New York City, welcomed more than 100 IEEE members and their families on 6 October. It was one of nearly 650 events held around the world to celebrate IEEE Day, an annual event to honor the organization’s roots. The Intrepid event was hosted by the IEEE Foundation.

Members received free admission for themselves and a guest. They could also purchase membership to the museum at a 10 percent discount. The offer is part of an ongoing partnership between IEEE and the Intrepid museum.

The museum is aboard the USS Intrepid Navy aircraft carrier. It’s home to the Enterprise, NASA’s first space shuttle. On display are some of the world’s fastest jets as well as number of international aircraft, a guided-missile submarine, and artifacts from the carrier’s 31-year service. Through its collections and exhibits, visitors were able to explore a variety of technological achievements made possible thanks to the hard work and dedication of engineers, including many IEEE members.

IEEE membership offers a wide range of benefits and opportunities for those who share a common interest in technology. If you are not already a member, consider joining IEEE and becoming part of a worldwide network of more than 400,000 students and professionals.
