Nominations Sought for 2012 EAB Awards

Recognize a colleague who has made a difference in education

You have until 30 April 2012 to nominate a person, an IEEE section, or an organization for the 2012 IEEE Educational Activities Board awards, which recognize contributions to education. Nominations are sought for these 10 awards:

IEEE EAB Meritorious Achievement Award in Accreditation Activities—for members whose efforts foster the maintenance and improvement of education through the accreditation process.

Meritorious Achievement Award in Continuing Education—for members who have made contributions to the design, delivery, and support of continuing education courses and programs in IEEE’s fields of interest.

Meritorious Achievement Award in Informal Education—for members who volunteer as librarians, docents, tour guides, or curators, or who act as technical advisers to, or serve as board members of, aquariums, museums, parks, zoos, or similar settings where teachers, students, and the public can benefit from their professional expertise in science and technology.

Major Educational Innovation Award—for members whose outstanding educational innovations have had a major impact and have been emulated by others.

Preuniversity Educator Award—for current preuniversity classroom teachers who, though not necessarily IEEE members, have inspired in students an appreciation of mathematics, science, technology, and the engineering process, and have encouraged them to pursue technical careers.

Meritorious Service Citation—for IEEE volunteers who are past members of the Educational Activities Board or are serving, or have served, on EAB committees (except for current service on the Awards and Recognition Committee) for outstanding and sustained service toward the aims and objectives of the EAB.

Employer Professional Development Award—for organizations that provide continuing education and professional development for their employees, which include IEEE members.

Society/Council Professional Development Award—for IEEE societies or councils for major contributions to the professional development of their members through outstanding products, services, and support in the areas of lifelong learning, continuing education, and professional development.

Standards Education Award—for significant contributions of an individual, group, or organization in support of the IEEE Standards Education mission of promoting the importance of standards in meeting technical, economic, environmental, and social challenges; disseminating learning materials on the application of standards in the design and development aspects of educational programs; actively promoting the integration of standards into academic programs; and providing short courses about standards needed in the design and development phases of professional practice.

Section Professional Development Award—for IEEE sections for their development of outstanding products and services supporting the continuing education and professional development of their members.
