Cecelia Jankowski has been chosen to receive the 2013 IEEE Eric Herz Outstanding Staff Member Award for “exceptional leadership of IEEE Member and Geographic Activities [MGA] and a career devoted to the goals and objectives of IEEE.” She will receive the award in November at the IEEE Meeting Series, to be held in New Brunswick, N.J.
An IEEE senior member, Jankowski has been the managing director of MGA since 1995. She is responsible for implementing membership engagement and leadership development strategies for MGA and IEEE geographic units around the world. When IEEE Regional Activities was renamed IEEE Member and Geographic Activities in 2008, Jankowski helped spearhead the transition. She also helped expand the IEEE Asia Pacific Operations Centre, in Singapore, to assist IEEE members in Region 10.
In 2010, Jankowski helped develop the MGA regional geographic strategy for gaining new members and enhancing the value of IEEE membership. MGA collects and analyzes data from geographic areas around the world and identifies opportunities to address the local needs of members in IEEE regions and sections in order to increase member recruitment and retention.
The Board of Directors created the Herz Award in 2005 to honor the longtime IEEE volunteer Eric Herz, who served as IEEE general manager and executive director before retiring in 1992. The award recognizes a past or present staff member who has made a substantial impact on the goals and objectives of IEEE, and contributed to the success of a number of IEEE initiatives.
The nomination deadline for the 2014 Herz Award is 31 January. For more information, visit the IEEE Awards Board website.
