Nineteen experts in the areas of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and cybersecurity gathered in October for an IEEE-sponsored session with the goal of authoring a trend paper focused on the following complex questions:
Given the rapid evolution of AI/ML technologies and the enormous challenges we all face with respect to cybersecurity, what is needed from AI/ML, where can the technologies be best applied, and what must be done during the next 10 years?
The group highlighted challenges and then prioritized six topics that must be addressed in order to answer the questions. They authored “Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Applied to Cybersecurity,” a paper focused on identifying the most viable solutions. In the spirit of continued transparency and peer review, an online feedback form is provided.
The paper was produced by the IEEE Industry Engagement Committee in cooperation with Syntegrity, a company in Toronto that helps organizations collaborate and solve complex problems. This project highlights the strategic benefit of developing policy by connecting technology leaders in industry.
This new model of industry engagement will expand with events during this year’s IEEE Rebooting Computing Week, to be held in early November in Washington, D.C.
